Among the procedures
available today are:
- Whitening – the simplest cosmetic procedure
whitens the teeth. This is often done as part
of more extensive treatment. While
there are many ways to do this, the best
is under the guidance of the dentist.
- Tooth coloured fillings – traditional
old amalgam fillings leave the teeth dark and
liable to crack and are very unsightly. Modern
bonded fillings of either enamel like composite
or porcelain reproduce a natural appearance
and function.
- Veneers – these
thin facings are bonded to the teeth to make
them even in shape and colour and can be
very successful in closing gaps, straightening
teeth and correcting discoloured teeth.
- Crowns – are similar
to veneers, but are used to restore teeth
that are more broken or damaged.
- Implants – can
be used as a base to replace missing teeth.
- Orthodontic
treatment – adult orthodontics
is becoming a much more popular way of straightening
teeth with the advent of new techniques,
and while it does take longer than other
treatments, the end result justifies this.
